Microsoft Faces Two More Patent Suits in Eastern District

Posted by Kara Reeder Aug 18, 2009 9:49:20 AM

On the heals of a stunning decision by an Texas Judge to ban the sales of Microsoft Word in the U.S., Microsoft is now facing two more patent suits in the same district.

According to InformationWeek, Allvoice Developments U.S. alleges that the speech recognition support built into Windows XP and Vista violates its patent, while EMG Technology claims that several Microsoft products infringe its patent for viewing Web content on a mobile device. Both companies are seeking unspecified damages.

Ruling like the MS Word ban have earned the Eastern District the distinction as "the patent lawsuit capital of the nation, where plaintiffs are more likely to get a favorable judgment." Many of the Court's ruling have sparked calls for reform.
