Justice Department Subpoenas Hitachi, Toshiba

Hitachi and Toshiba been subpoenaed by the the U.S. Department of Justice in a widening investigation into potential antitrust violations concerning optical drives, reports The Wall Street Journal. Earlier this week, Sony subsidiary, Sony Optiarc America, was served with a subpoena. A Hitachi spokesman says the company is cooperating fully.

 

domain-b.com notes that the Justice Department has really been going after computer component manufacturers for forming a cartel to fix prices and market shares. Last November, LG, Sharp and Chunghwa Picture Tubes agreed to pay a hefty penalty of $585 million for allegedly being part of a price-fixing scheme.
