Is Facebook Suit Against German Site a Case of Sour Grapes?

Posted by Kara Reeder Aug 11, 2008 10:40:50 AM

Facebook actually tried to buy the German social networking site that it ended up suing last month, reports The New York Times.

Before Facebook accused StudiVZ of copying its "look and feel," it attempted to strengthen its presence in the German market by negotiating to buy StudiVZ. But the German site doesn't need to sell, and so parent company, the Holtzbrinck Gruppe, is asking several times the reported $134 million it paid in 2007.

Anonymous StudiVZ insiders are leaking the sour grapes theory, claiming that the lawsuit is a response to the failed negotiations, according to NewsFactor Network.
