Bill to Help Small Healthcare Practices Fund EHRs

Posted by Kara Reeder Nov 16, 2009 11:10:21 AM

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry has introduced the Small Business Health Information Technology Financing Act of 2009 to help family doctors fund conversion to electronic health records, reports InformationWeek.

The bill would make family doctors and other small medical practices eligible for federal loans to cover the cost of health information technology. The cost of hardware, software and other technology would be covered by the loans. Says Kerry:

This legislation helps small practices acquire the technology that will allow them to be more efficient and to focus on patient care.
