Wipro Delays Plans for Atlanta

Indian outsourcing company Wipro is delaying its planned software development center in Atlanta, Ga., according to an IDG story in The New York Times.

The company announced plans for the U.S. facility in August. The IDG story provides no new timetable, however, but quotes the company as saying:

We are not shying away from what we plan to do in Atlanta but it is taking more time than expected.

Third quarters typically are weak in the outsourcing industry, and that quarter this year was the weakest in 10 years, according to outsourcing consultancy Technology Partners International. Wipro's profit grew only 1.3 percent during that period.

However, the company is pushing forward with plans to move into African markets, according to this Economic Times article.
