Wanted: Security Software Developer

Posted by Kara Reeder Apr 18, 2008 9:22:33 AM

The sputtering economy doesn't seem to be impacting the IT workforce. IT employment grew 7.9 percent in December 2007. Moreover, fellow February showed a gain of 40,000 jobs.

Now there's more good news for IT. According to this eWeek article, there seems to be a new occupation on the horizon: Security Software Developer.

With Gartner reporting that 75 percent of attacks target applications, this is a critical niche for computer software engineers to get into. But where to get these skills is another matter. There are currently no classes at the university level.

Companies like IBM, that view software security development as an important specialty, are bringing in resources to educate their employees. Companies like Cigital and Security Innovation offer security training to teach developers how applications are attacked.
