Removing Barriers to Improved Productivity

Posted by Susan Hall Jul 29, 2009 2:16:07 PM

In an article on CIO Today, Global 360 CEO David Mitchell looks at manufacturing process management to consider how to improve worker productivity as part of business process management initiatives.

Taking a lesson from Total Quality Management, he says business processes must be seen end to end, with every worker able to, in effect, "stop the line" to correct problems. He argues that business process improvement these days has hit a wall because organizations under-respect the contributions of individual workers.

He said that in the past, makers of BPM tools designed them for system builders; now they need to be made for system users. When that is accomplished, he says this barrier to productivity will come tumbling down.
