Office Workers Still Network Security Enemy No. 1

Posted by Ainsley Jones Oct 12, 2007 12:48:06 PM

For all the worrying companies do over all the threats to their networks, it seems to biggest threat is the one right under their nose, office workers. A Sophos survey revealed that office-bound employees are the most likely to expose their networks to IT threats. A whopping 44 percent of respondents considered such users their greatest threat.

Mobile employees were considered to be the greatest threat by 31 percent of respondents. Sophos' head of technology, Paul Ducklin, draws from the study that administrators haven't become complacent about desktop security. There is a risk wherever there is a computer, and it seems the most important element of security is the person pushing the buttons and holding the phone.

We are all human; it's important that security policies should reflect that.
