Green Technology: Fear and Apathy in the Workplace

Posted by Ainsley Jones Jul 1, 2008 12:05:57 PM

The deduction of a recent E.ON report is that office workers are nervous about implementing green practices in their workplaces.

BusinessGreen reports that employees too afraid to ask for their bosses' permission to initiate energy-saving measures or fearful that their fellow coworkers would label them a "company man" for embracing environmentally friendly practices helped contribute to the 7.1 billion tons of annual carbon waste by office workers.

Turning the debate on its ear is a recent poll from Cannon. The survey found the workers in the UK are apathetic when it comes to green behavior at the office. Forty percent said they didn't believe it was their responsibility to be environmentally friendly in the workplace and 30 percent said that responsibility should lie with their employer.

Over half of respondents said their company didn't have a green policy, 42 percent said their company's policy was more show than go, and 10 percent admitted to not even knowing what a green policy was.
