Google Trends Aids Crooks

Susan Hall

Ever-morphing cyber criminals are watching Google Trends to serve up malware, reports ZDNet's Dancho Danchev.

Google Trends lists the hottest search topics -- maybe the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team and the U.S. vice presidential debate, suggests CNET News -- then displays them on a graph, along with related news articles and blog posts. The crooks then cook up their own blogs, headlines and videos to move a malicious site up in the rankings of a Google search.

The Inquirer writes:

Then it is just a matter of waiting for the saps to arrive and watch the malware fly to freedom. Still it is nice to know that someone is not just using Google Trends as a way to peddle annoying goods and services at you.
