'Family Guy' Talent Join Windows 7 Push

Posted by Susan Hall Oct 14, 2009 1:25:15 PM

Product placement is everywhere these days, but Microsoft is taking it to a whole new level. It's teaming up with "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane and co-star Alex Borstein on a 30-minute variety TV show to promote Windows 7, reports TechFlash.

The company says the show, in the vein of the old "Texaco Star Theater,"  will provide "unique Windows 7-branded programming that blends seamlessly with show content." The Los Angeles Times takes that to mean "jokes, songs and cartoons that include clever references to Windows." It's scheduled to air Nov. 8 at 8:30 p.m. on the Fox network.

It's not clear how much the show will cost Microsoft, but the Times notes that last year Fast Company reported that a 30-second spot on "Family Guy" cost $200,000.
