AOL Acquires Sphere Blog Search Engine

Susan Hall

AOL has acquired contextual search start-up Sphere, which aggregates content on related subjects with video, audio, and blog posts to drive page views and increase advertising exposure, reports InfoWorld.

The purchase price was not disclosed, but TechCrunch puts it at around $25 million.

Bill Wilson, executive vice president of programming at AOL, said the acquisition will help expand its strategy of leveraging what he calls "passion points" of small but devoted audiences and get AOL content in front of more readers.
