Posted by Patrick Avery Apr 14, 2009 11:22:57 AM

IT Business Edge contributor Arthur Cole recently spoke with Gary Watson, the chief technology officer for Nexsan, about getting better savings out of storage. Watson said:

The Knowledge Network provides a number of documents and tools that focus on green technology and energy savings. This Tiered Storage Savings Calculator gives users a quick approximation of the savings opportunity in switching from current storage deployment to a more rigorous tiered approach.

The Green Data Center Calculator - Comatose crunches the numbers from decommissioning “comatose” servers -- tracking down and turning off servers no longer performing useful work.

And for a broader view, take a look at this Green Data Center Energy-Efficiency Checklist. It covers areas that are most likely draining energy and are in need of attention.
