Microsoft Sharepoint Helps to Simplify Integration

Posted by Patrick Avery Jul 17, 2009 10:53:45 AM

Some people are abandoning Microsoft Sharepoint for the very reason Sharepoint can help them, blogger Loraine Lawson points out.

Peter Campbell, a Director of IT at Earthjustice, decided to pass on the Microsoft software. He recently explained his decision on Idealware, a tech Web site for non-profits. Lawson said what really grabbed her attention is that he sees Sharepoint as a choice between integration capabilities and fostering integrated, collaborative work.

However, Lawson says there are a lot of things about Sharepoint designed to simplify integration. Campbell notes that Sharepoint would simplify his life because it integrates with Microsoft Exchange, Office and Window Directory and because it also includes hooks to a range of databases. That said, Campbell's quick to warn that the integration can get tricky if you're dealing with legacy systems or advanced programming.

What's your take on Sharepoint and integration? Does it help you or is it too "tricky"?
