Jerks Or Not, Enterprise iPhone Users Are Coming

Posted by Patrick Avery Nov 5, 2009 12:19:38 PM

According to a new survey, iPhone owners are more likely than BlackBerry owners to text someone to break off a relationship and watch porn on their device. This survey, conducted by Retrevo, also said that iPhone owners think "cool gadgets" make a potential mate three times more attractive than a college degree. Who knew iPhone users could be such jerks, right?

But, who are we kidding? iPhones have such permeated our culture -- jerks or not -- and the number of iPhone users will only continue to grow. In fact, they are infiltrating our workplaces in increasing numbers. And, the number of enterprises adopting iPhones is growing.

Apple, in an attempt to make the iPhone more marketable for businesses, has worked hard to secure and encrypt its device, says Ryan Faas, author of "iPhone at Work." The enterprise iPhone has even gotten Gartner's seal of approval.

But some, including CTO Edge's Wayne Rash, still don't buy into iPhones at work, even though the device is no less safe than other smartphones on the market.

Rash says:

It’s just as secure as other smartphones, and you can set the policy on your Exchange server so that the iPhone will require a password just to use it. This will do a pretty good job of keeping corporate information out of the hands of someone who might find it, or steal it, for that matter.

For those looking to see whether iPhones might be the right way to go for your workplace, take a look at this Corporate iPhone Cautionary Checklist in the Knowledge Network. It details 10 areas of concern you should investigate before including the iPhone in your set of corporate productivity tools.
