Facebook Policy Helps Companies Set Employee Use Limits

Posted by Patrick Avery Oct 29, 2009 8:31:09 AM

ITManagerToolkits.com has added a Facebook Usage Policy to the Knowledge Network. This sample policy is for companies that let employees use Facebook at work, but want to set some limits and provide ground rules for them.

This document provides two sets of guidelines.  The first set of rules is applicable to all Facebook use, whether at work or on personal time. The second set is applicable to those who wish to use Facebook at work and use their accounts to help promote the company.

Some of the guidelines include:

  • Facebook is not a substitute for inter-company communications. Important information should be transmitted within normal company communication channels, not on Facebook.

  • Be clear that you are not an official spokesperson for the company and that your views do not necessarily reflect those of the company. Remember to be productive.

  • Facebook can be a time sink and can prevent you from completing other work-related tasks. Use good judgment to ensure that you have plenty of time to complete all your regular work.

This document is part of a Social Media Policies Toolkit, which provides a straightforward set of documents that you can put to use immediately at your organization. It's an ideal starting point for designing policies for social-media Eeb sites and their use within your company. It includes straightforward guidelines on the procedures for maintaining company-branded social-media content on the top sites today, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Plus it helps you define the rules for employees' personal use of social media at your company.
