    Netbooks at Work

    The netbook has not yet fully emerged as a separate and distinct business device category. But, like smartphones, Wi-Fi and other technologies before it, the consumer device is being used by people at work. IT Business Edge takes a look at devices vendors suggest are the most valuable in a work environment.

    The definition of non-phone mobile devices is still a bit fuzzy. At the same time, experts are saying that the netbook – also known as the mini-notebook – has peaked. It will be interesting to see if vendors see the business world, or specific verticals such as health care, as a way to reinvigorate the category.

    The IdeaPad S10-3t is Lenovo’s first multitouch-screen netbook tablet. Its design features a curved silhouette and inspired pattern on the cover in two vibrant colors. Using the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t netbook tablet, users can log on and off their PC, scroll through video archives, drag-and-drop to create play lists and turn e-book pages with a simple tap, flick or pinch of their fingers on the screen.The 10.1-inch screen can be used in tablet or clamshell mode. The S10-3t comes with Lenovo Direct Share software for wireless synchronization of files with another PC and location-based services.

    The Inspiron Mini 10 is portable and offers wireless and entertainment features. Its keyboard is 92 percent of the size of a traditional laptop keyboard. It streams HD video with optional HD display, Broadcom Crystal HD media accelerator and enhanced audio. The netbook offers advanced wireless functions, built-in GPS and optional built-in digital TV receiver.

    The Samsung N210 netbook features a pearl white finish with a 10.1-inch screen. The netbook weighs less than three pounds and has a battery life of seven hours. The USB port charges other devices even when the netbook is powered down.

    The Samsung NB30 netbook comes with a free-fall sensor. The netbook’s texturized black matte cover protects the NB30 from scratches and the keyboard is spill-resistant. The device is lightweight and offers six hours of battery.

    The Samsung N150 netbook is powered with the Intel Atom N450 processor and carries a 160 GB hard disk drive. The netbook is available in a variety of colors. It has a fingerprint-free matte finish. The netbook weighs 2.7 pounds.

    The HP Mini 5102, dubbed the ‘Mini Executive,’ is HP’s smallest and lightest companion PC. It is housed in a durable, yet lightweight all-metal case and available in three colors. Its depth is .91 inches and it weighs 2.64 lbs. The HP Mini 5102 offers touch capabilities for easier navigation, face recognition for easy log-in, and Corel Home Office. It includes a 10.1-inch diagonal LED-backlit display, Intel Atom processor, wireless connectivity and the integrated 2MP webcam. The QWERTY keyboard is 95 percent of the size of a desktop keyboard.

    The HP Mini 2102 features a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display, various operating system options and the latest HP software (QuickSync, QuickWeb, CloudDrive and MediaStream). The Mini 2102 weighs 2.69 pounds and is less than one inch thick. Battery life can be as long as 10 hours. Options include 3G broadband and GPS. It supports Adobe Flash 10.1 and an HD screen and optional HD video accelerator.

    The Asus Eee PC 1001 (Seashell) uses Genuine Windows XP Home and has a battery life as long as 11 hours. It features the Intel Atom N450 processor and Super Hybrid Engine technology for power-efficiency. The device offers a dual OS with Express Gate, an ergonomically designed keyboard and multi-touch touchpad and easy access to useful tools.

    The Aspire One 751h, the first 11.6″ wide-screen netbook from Acer, displays HD content on a LED-backlit display. The device features 5.1-channel audio with Dolby Headphone technology. A full-size FineTip keyboard has flat, broad keys. The AO751h features a multi-gesture touchpad that supports circular-motion scrolling, pinch-action zoom and page flip.

    The 10.1-inch Aspire One D250 is one inch thick, weighs less than four pounds, and offers the CrystallEye webcam and Acer Video Conference software.
