As people gear up to take time off this summer during these troubled economic times, you can bet more of them will be working during that so-called vacation. As such, many of them will be relying more on their mobile computing devices than ever, which could easily result in a lot more work for the internal IT help desk.
To address this issue, the folks at Zenprise have launched Zencloud, a mobile device management (MDM) service that IT organizations can leverage as a cloud computing service. According to Ahmed Datoo, chief marketing officer for Zenprise, Zencloud is the only MDM service in the cloud that is backed by a 100 percent uptime service-level agreement (SLA).
In general, MDM is becoming more complex because it's becoming impossible to maintain a single device standard. Like it or not, end users have a plethora of devices that many of them are using to access corporate information with or without IT permission. That may be a cause for termination in some organizations, but the fact is that you simply can't fire everyone. For that reason alone, Datoo says the time has come for IT organizations to proactively manage the problem rather than continue to resist the inevitable tide.
In addition to Zencloud, Zenprise gives IT organizations the option to deploy its MDM platform on premise or in a hybrid mode leveraging both on-premise software and Zencloud. Datoo says Zenprise's MDM platform allows IT organizations to secure mobile devices and they can also block any unmanaged device, a specific user and even blacklist certain applications.
Most IT organizations are already practicing some limited form of MDM. But as summer comes, they might want to think about upping their game because chances are, there is going to be a lot more work happening outside the office than actually in it.
