Why Videoconferencing Is the Right Choice

The ability to engage in videoconferencing offers a multitude of benefits and is widely utilized by firms both large and small.

Polycom this week unveiled a video collaboration product that the company says offers the best video experience at the most compelling price point for small and mid-sized businesses. According to ChannelPro-SMB, the Polycom RealPresence Ready comes with two Polycom HDX 6000 room systems, one Polycom HDX 7000 system and five Polycom Telepresence m100 software licenses. The system uses H.264 coding and compression technology so that it consumes up to 50 percent less bandwidth than comparable products - possibly alleviating the need for an Internet bandwidth upgrade when deploying the system.

Given that Polycom has traditionally focused its attention on serving the enterprise in the videoconferencing sphere, the mere news that it is offering an affordable videoconferencing solution for SMB customers is noteworthy, indeed. The company says that the Polycom RealPresence Ready is fully backward- and forward-compatible with existing or new communications systems, and provides native integration with industry-leading products such as Microsoft Lync. In a nutshell, SMBs can expect to interoperate with the broadest range of video collaboration systems.

Moreover, the modular nature of Polycom solutions means that SMBs can also opt for additional components such as Polycom telepresence m500 for tablets and the Polycom VVX 1500 business video phone so as to tap into the full Polycom video experience at a later date. This flexibility offers SMBs an expansion path that is invaluable towards catering to their growth.

Susan Hayden, executive vice president of Polycom, highlighted the company's commitments to SMBs in a statement:

As the demand for affordable and easy-to-use video solutions continues to grow, we're doubling down on our SMB initiatives and accelerating the pace at which we'll bring innovative software solutions to market ... When customers choose Polycom open solutions, they can be assured that all their communications systems will work together seamlessly today and as their businesses grow.

Polycom RealPresence Ready is available in the U.S. at the starting price of US$17,999 for a three-room and five-desktop solution. "Leasing with some preconfigurations I've seen," says Jim Kruger, senior vice president of Polycom's Global Solution Marketing, "can be about $500 a month."
