SOA Now Unstoppable

Ventana Research

Two new surveys came out this week on the subject of SOA's take-up among enterprises, and they are in uncharacteristic agreement. A Freeform Dynamics survey finds that "roughly 50 percent" of its sample companies are involved in SOA to some extent, with somewhere between 15 percent and 20 percent "proactively adopting" SOA.

An Evans Data survey agrees with the "roughly 50 percent" figure and, interestingly, arrived at this figure by sampling developers, not execs. Even more interesting is the Evans Data finding that these projects were characterized as successful.

The trend towards SOA is global, with Europe somewhat ahead of the pack, followed by the U.S. As with many other new technologies, the financial and telecom sectors are leading the way worldwide.

Freeform Dynamics characterizes this trend as "unstoppable." We agree. And one of the main reasons is the heavy commitment by companies like IBM, Oracle, Microsoft and SAP.
