In a recent post, we argued that the success of master data management (MDM) was inevitable. Now, a new study by the ARC Advisory Group adds support to our position. According to ARC, the MDM market will experience a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.7 percent over the next five years, putting it at $1.35 billion in 2011.
Still, MDM and its cousin, customer data integration (CDI), are not for everybody. According to new research from CDI Institute, the average cost of an MDM installation is $1.2 million for the software alone, plus about four times that for consulting/implementation.
There are other options. For managing product data, product information management (PIM) vendors offer a variety of point solutions. For customers, there are plenty of CRM solutions, including SaaS offerings not only from Salesforce.com, but Microsoft, SAP and Oracle as well.
And speaking of SaaS, there are now SaaS companies that can do the integration that was supposed to be SaaS' Achilles heel. Or so they claim.
Stay tuned for new developments in these very hot markets.
