Wiley Publishing uploaded another "For Dummies" book excerpt on the Knowledge Network this week; this title focuses on virtualization. Virtualization for Dummies gives readers a detailed overview of exactly what virtualization is and exactly how it works, and then takes them on a tour of the benefits of a virtualized environment, such as added space in overcrowded data centers, lower operations costs through more efficient infrastructure administration, and reduced energy costs through server consolidation.
The excerpt is the entire second chapter, "Making a Business Case for Virtualization." This selection discusses how virtualization both saves money on hardware and reduces hardware risk, the case for virtualization's more efficient use of IT personnel, the link between virtualization and lower IT operations costs, and virtualization's track record in terms of using less energy.
