Improving Your Performance Review Process

Eight tips that can help improve your company's performance review process.

Frequent contributors The Computer Guy, Info-Tech Research Group and project management expert Michael Taylor have uploaded templates to help you define and focus on professional development objectives and make concrete plans to attain goals, whether you are working to build your IT talent as an employer or further your own career:

  • Personnel Performance Appraisal - Michael Taylor's template promotes regular performance reviews that help IT managers give feedback on performance to employees; identify employee training needs; document criteria used to allocate organizational rewards; and form a basis for personnel decisions like salary increases, promotions and disciplinary actions.
  • Career Development Plan - Use Info-Tech Research Group's plan template to identify employee career targets, pinpoint competency gaps and career progression challenges and develop a measurable training plan that ties back to performance reviews of both supervisors and employees.
  • Professional Development Plan - This template from The Computer Guy guides an employee through the professional development process, with a particular emphasis on continued education.
  • Employee Development Plan - This template, also provided by The Computer Guy, includes areas for employees to write down their goals and areas are left for supervisors to write down how they will help employees accomplish their goals.
