Jobs Still Available?

Patrick Avery

The slide of the national and world economies has hit just about every significant industry, including IT. Stories about tech giants Microsoft and IBM laying off thousands of employees have been littering newspapers and tech blogs.

But, even during times of financial distress, companies worldwide continue to hire, even if it is in a cautious manner. Some of the documents in the Knowledge Network are examples of job descriptions for application support specialists or IT help desk professionals, network administrators and information systems/technology directors.

Often, these jobs are called by other names or grouped together with other related positions to create all-new positions. It will be intriguing to see what other job descriptions are uploaded to the Knowledge Network and to see how diverse IT jobs have become. Send us some of your company's job descriptions so we can see how they stack up. Perhaps you will also find other ways to refine your own descriptions.

In addition, writer Susan Hall poses an interesting question about hiring during a recession and whether that actually helps businesses find better talent.
