Even though IT departments are less comfortable with change management, they are aware of the need for it, says Erik Van Slyke, a founding partner of Solleva Group, which helps organizations plan for, implement and manage change. In an interview with IT Business Edge's Ann All, Van Slyke says it turns out that IT workers are some of the best at dealing with change management:
I would say some of the better change managers actually come out of IT because so much of what they do touches so many different parts of the organization. There is an awareness there that you don't find in other parts of the organization.
But, some of those IT managers aren't fully aware of what they're doing in regard to change management. As soon as you don't have that kind of awareness, then it becomes more difficult to apply adaptive tools to manage the challenges, Van Slyke says.
For those looking to get insight into change management, IT Business Edge has posted its Change Control Plan Template in the Knowledge Network. This template is what we use at IT Business Edge to guide that process.
