Improving Energy Efficiency as You Build Your Data Center

Susan Hall

The U.S. Department of Energy is awarding $47 million for 14 projects across the country to improve energy efficiency in IT and communications, writes Julius Neudorfer on our CTO Edge Site. Recipients include companies such as HP and IBM, educational institutions such as the California Institute of Technology and Columbia University, and even Yahoo.

Dare we say it on such a wintry day for many of us, but energy efficiency is a hot topic for blogger Arthur Cole here on IT Business Edge and also at our Data Center Edge site.

Meanwhile, check out an excerpt of the book, "Build the Best Data Center Facility for Your Business Excerpt" by Douglas Alger at the Knowledge Network.

If you need a starting point for designing your first data center, regardless of size; if you need to prepare yourself with comprehensive strategies to retrofit or improve an existing one; or if you need proven methods to manage a data center for maximum productivity - this book is your readily accessible, comprehensive resource for answers and insights.

This excerpt is the book's entire second chapter, "Choosing an Optimal Site."

Terrabytes Consulting has uploaded some strategies for a green IT program. Here are some other data center resources in the Knowledge Network.
