Private Folder XP Plug-In May Be Hassle for Help Desk

Ken-Hardin reports today that some enterprise bloggers are concerned that Microsoft's new Private Folder plug-in -- which allows users to password-protect access to local content -- will create headaches for tech support pros everywhere.

A blogger who has installed Private Folder reports that only Admins can install the utility, which should ease the minds of some enterprise IT shops that lock out users from installing any software. But in many smaller shops, users are set up as local Admins, so Private Folders is certain to cause some grief.

The blogger goes on to report that he has yet to find a way to index files in a Private Folder, which seems like a natural feature to expect from Microsoft.
