At least one Wall Street analyst this morning is telling its clients -- although as usual, Google isn't saying much -- that the search giant is in fact probably not working on its own brand of mobile phone, but instead is developing mobile software.
This despite a minor frenzy on gadget boards, complete with "leaked" photos, of the alleged GPhone.
As I said just a few days ago, print any rumor about how Google is about to enter a market and tech enthusiasts (as well as a healthy chunk of the tech press) will go nuts.
This (non)news should surprise exactly no one. In fact, focusing on mobile extensions of its software products is one of the most non-revolutionary, business-like things Google could be doing at this moment. Think of all that AdWords inventory.
