Software engineering has been ranked as the hottest job in the United States, according to a survey, the 2011 Jobs Rated Methodology conducted by CareerCast.com.
We knew software engineers were in high demand, thanks to the proliferation of iPods, tablets and smartphones, but this survey doesn't just look at demand or salary. It also factors in work environment, stress and physical demands. According to CBS News:
Software engineers make an average of about $87,140, according to the survey, and have relatively low work-related stress, a great outlook for employment and strong income growth potential.
Also making the list were mathematicians (No. 2), statisticians (No. 4), computer systems analysts (No. 5), technical writers (No. 26) and computer programmers (No. 27), though this job increasingly is being outsourced.
