WAN System Overcomes Satellite Latency

Arthur Cole

A North Carolina company is claiming to have developed a new WAN optimization system that delivers "full speed" data transfer for VPNs and application delivery, even over satellite connections.

End II End's BNO (Broadband Network Optimization) Technology can be utilized on DSL, cable and wireless networks, but the speed at which it operates overcomes the greater latency of most satellite services, according to the company.

The system works using a testing mechanism that determines wide-area network performance ahead of time. It uses that information to determine the precise settings of networking devices at remote sites.

One customer, BASF, quoted in the company's press release, reported a 7-fold increase in WAN performance compared to rival systems.
