WAN Optimization Market Up

Arthur Cole

Since this is the time of year for market data reports, I thought I'd throw another one at you.

Infonetics Research is reporting that worldwide sales of WAN optimization appliances increased 20 percent in the third quarter this year, nearly doubling from the same period a year ago. The company says it expects a similar gain in the fourth quarter to round out 2007 with nearly 65 percent year-on-year growth.

Riverbed is the current market leader, followed by Cisco and Bluecoat.

Things look even better for the long term. The company expects the market to nearly quadruple by 2010.

Enterprise routers also showed a third quarter gain, although a much more modest 4 percent. Mid-level routers make up about 40 percent of the total market, which is led by Cisco, Juniper and Huawei.

Yeah, Cisco got a little help as sales of routers with WAAS got thrown into the sales numbers. Same with Blue Coat. Riverbed still beat them.Justin LoftonSystems Engineerjustinl@tredent.comTredent Data Systems, Inc.WAN Acceleration Reply
