WAN Optimization in a Small Package

Enterprises will soon have access to carrier-class WAN optimization technology in small form-factor designs suitable for data centers and branch offices. Ipanema Technologies has installed the Autonomic Networking System (ANS) in its small (230x200mm) ip/engine appliance, allowing the unit to manage up to 1 Gbps of WAN traffic over ADSL2+ or SDSL links. The devices also feature hot-swappable RAID disks with up to 750 GB of storage. The ip/e device is outfitted with a new type of auxiliary port that can divert a part of the WAN traffic to external application-specific devices while still allowing the ip/e to monitor and optimize the traffic.

The ANS system features intelligent networking that allows the creation of application service level agreements throughout an extended network through enhanced visibility and acceleration.

Pricing starts at $3,150 for an 8 Mbps device and tops out at $51,000 for a full 1 Gbps unit.
