Another virtualization management platform came out this week, an indication of how great the need is for enterprises to begin exerting some control over the growing number of virtual machines at their disposal.

Start-up Virtugo has introduced the virtualSuite r6 management platform, intended to reduce the sprawl of both virtual servers and virtual desktops by linking IT services to business processes directly, says SOA World Magazine.

The platform provides a heavy dose of capacity planning, offering a set of tools to track host server and virtual machine metrics and analyze them for potential bottlenecks. There is also a means to track resource utilization, both physical and virtual, to better balance usage levels and allocate costs and, if need be, chargebacks. There is also an optimization function that continuously tweaks the virtual environment to enhance application performance.

The system is compatible with Xen and VMware environments, both of which can be managed from a single point.
