Vicom Enters SAN Virtualization Biz

Add another name to the list of SAN virtualization vendors.

Vicom has announced the release of its Storage Virtualization Engine (SVE), the heart of what it terms an end-to-end solution that builds on its existing lines of SSA, SCSI and Fibre Channel routing systems.

The SVE offers a number of applications designed to support its latest line of FC-to-FC networking devices. The package includes mapping software, security and copy/serve technologies designed to support storage pooling and resource sharing via mapping and zoning, as well as data protection, replication and backup/restore.

The company has built its platform on the idea of allowing any Fibre Channel target to be connected to any type of Fibre Channel initiator, rather than simple Initiator-to-Target conversion. It already has strategic relationships with Boeing and StorageNetworks, and is looking to forge OEM arrangements with HP, IBM and other platform providers.
