Sybase Broadens UNIX Cluster Availability

HP-UX and AIX users have a new clustered storage option at their disposal. Sybase Inc. has announced availability of its Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) Cluster Edition for both platforms, a move the company says was prompted by demand from customers.

The package is expected to improve the ability to consolidate database servers and bolster SLA capabilities by extending the platform's Virtualized Management Resource (VRM) system across shared-disk cluster architectures.

Users will also have access to a range of enterprise monitoring and database admin tools from Bradmark Technologies, a Sybase partner. The package includes the Surveillance real-time database monitor that oversees multiple Sybase systems, including ASE, IQ, replication Server and Mirror Activator. The company recently introduced version 4.2 for the ASE Cluster Edition.
