Sun Updates VirtualBox

Posted by Arthur Cole Sep 4, 2008 8:35:22 PM

If you're going to have virtual desktops, you might as well make them as flexible as possible.

That's apparently Sun's thinking with the launch of the updated xVM VirtualBox, a free, open source package that supports Windows, Linux (both 64-bit), Mac and Solaris. It also features performance optimization coding for those of you working off AMD processors.

The package takes up less than 20 MB and can be installed in less than five minutes. A subscription program is also available for $30 per user per year, which provides for unlimited support and the right to deploy the platform using in-house development tools.

VirtualBox can also be deployed with Sun's overall virtualization and management portfolio, which includes the xVM Ops Center, the xVM Server and the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) platform.
