Study Points to Ethernet Dominance

Posted by Arthur Cole Nov 26, 2008 6:04:17 PM

Current Analysis recently offered its take on data center networking, a report entitled “One Love, One Data Center, One Network,” in which it claims Ethernet is the only protocol that is agile, cost-effective and efficient enough to provide the framework for a unified data infrastructure.

Principal analyst Steven Schuchart says the adoption of the Ethernet as the basic networking format will coincide with the deployment of green technologies and virtualization in the drive to simplify the data center. He says that while Ethernet is already widely adopted and has drawn broad vendor support, rival schemes such as Fibre Channel and Infiniband are too slow or too cumbersome to make a suitable platform.
