Silver Peak Systems is claiming the first gigabit-capable WAN acceleration appliance, a development that should reduce the number of links needed to maintain long-distance enterprise connectivity.
The NX-9000 supports 4 Gbps of bidirectional LAN traffic and 1 Gbps of bidirectional WAN traffic, plus up to 8 TB of local storage for deduplication. The device holds two 10 Gbps interfaces and four 1 Gbps interfaces with the company's EtherChannel bonding technology to improve connectivity between the appliance and network devices.
Other key features include support for more than 256,000 simultaneous TCP flows, wirespeed encryption, and acceleration across a wide range of enterprise applications, including real-time UDP traffic such as voice and video, latency-sensitive traffic and dynamic data formats like AutoCAD and Excel.
This kind of functionality will cost you, however. List price for the 9000 is just shy of $260,000. Shipments are expected to begin in August.
