Give them points for chutzpah, at least.
A small company called MaxxCat is going toe-to-toe with none other than Google in the enterprise search field. The company has an appliance, the EX-5000, that it claims is seven times faster than the Google Search Appliance, while its small business device, the XB-250, is said to be 16 times faster than the Google Mini.
Based on a specialized Linux platform, the 5000 has an unlimited document search capacity and can churn 2,200 queries per minute, producing customized results. More than 200 file formats are supported and results are indexed at a rate of 1.28 GB per minute.
MaxxCat says its secret is a proprietary crypto algorithm designed with little else but speed in mind. The system's kernel can send and resolve a multi-term query in a million-document collection in less than 100 microseconds.
Both devices are slated for release later this spring.
