A small company called Intransa has introduced what I believe to be the first callable IP SAN operating on the 10 GbE level, a welcome development for expected Longhorn users interested in multipathing.
The Intransa StorStac Performance Controller Unit 100 can be scaled up or down by adding or removing controllers or disk spindles. Integrated operating software provides for fail-over based on the company's n-way active-active architecture, as well as load balancing, volume management and replication. The system also supports multiple physical mirrors with availability and accessibility management.
Faster throughput for network storage operations is emerging as a key requirement for today's high I/O applications, especially those that are image-based such as VOD, IPTV and surveillance.
The StorStac features Neterion's 10 Gbps Xframe iSCSI adapters and can hold multiple SCEs ranging from 3.75 TB to 12 TB.
