SanRad Switches Aid Virtual Management

Arthur Cole

A new generation of intelligent switching systems is making it easier to unite virtual server environments with heterogeneous storage networks, all in the name of uniting once-separated network silos under an interoperable enterprise fabric.

SanRad is the latest to push this trend with its V-Switch 3440 and 3480 devices designed for improved management and disaster recovery operations. Featuring a new GUI, the devices offer the ability to create virtual machine state-consistent snapshots across multiple arrays, enabling automatic restoration of data after a failure.

Both units have four 4G Fibre Channel ports, while the 3840 provides an additional four FC ports for higher overall throughput. Redundant hot-swap power supplies, compact flash and built-in storage management and virtualization servers are available on both units.

SanRad has also added iSCSI-to-FC protocol conversion that allows users to manage Fibre Channel SAN storage for several hundred iSCSI attached servers.
