Server clusters are becoming even more scalable with a spate of new gateway solutions aimed at simplifying the I/O connection process as new hardware is added.
Sanbolic Inc. this week released the Melio FS clustered file system that allows multiple x86 servers to be clustered under a single NAS gateway using a single file system. The software package for the Windows Storage Server platform uses the Common Iternet File Systems (CIFS) to scale I/O infrastructure in a linear fashion as new servers are added to the cluster.
The package can also be integrated into Hummingbird Solutions' NFS Maestro Server to provide scalable file serving from NFS to Linux and UNIX clients.
Integrated file-serving solutions are already available for Windows Storage Server environments, but Sanbolic argues that it can deliver the same performance as high-end systems at a much lower price point.
