Router Unifies Fibre Channel, Infiniband

Arthur Cole

Voltaire has introduced a storage router that the company claims improves Fibre Channel performance 200 percent and makes it easier to fold Infiniband into existing SANs.

The SR4G router was designed, reports, to remove bottlenecks in high-volume data applications, such as database management, digital media and financial services.

A key development is the ability to bridge 4 Gbps Fibre Channel networks with 20 Gbps Infiniband through a single Infiniband adapter. The system delivers 1500 MBps of storage throughput using the iSER (iSCSI extensions for RDMA) protocol to deliver block storage over Infiniband.
