RelData Ties DR to Unified Storage

Arthur Cole

For Fibre Channel users, replicating data to remote sites for disaster recovery and business continuity purposes has proven to be rather tricky. Shuttling FC data over IP networks requires a fairly agile set of technologies that quite often slows things down in the enterprise during the actual replication process.

Now, RelData says it has a fix in the 9240 Unified Storage Gateway. The system provides an FC target that can tap into an FC SAN without disrupting production environments, while the receive end gathers data aboard the company's unified storage system using standard SATA disks.

The system is targeted toward small and medium-sized businesses in that it leverages existing iSCSI networks for disaster recovery operations, even while laying the groundwork toward building a fully unified SAN infrastructure.
