Rackable Partners with NetApp

Arthur Cole

For those of you wondering what Rackable Systems was planning to do for storage networking after selling off the RapidScale line, the answer, apparently, is NetApp.

The company announced this week that it is joining NetApp's Embedded Systems Vendor Program with an aim to integrate the FAS series and other systems into Rackable's Eco-Logical infrastructure and ICE Cube modular data center.

The combo should provide a powerful high-volume storage solution, offering both high utilization and thin provisioning capabilities to suit emerging virtual environments. NetApp has placed a lot of its focus of late on multi-protocol networking and storage virtualization as a means to boost both scalability and density, which should dovetail nicely with Rackable's high-performance systems.

As part of the deal, Rackable will also join NetApp's Partner Program to coordinate the development of the two company's respective product lines.
