QLogic Bridges High-Speed SANs

Arthur Cole

Still more news from Storage Networking World in Dallas this week: QLogic has released a new high-bandwidth router capable of handling both 10 GbE iSCSI and 8 Gbps Fibre Channel traffic.

The 6200 Series features a PCI-Express expansion bus on each router blade that is expected to fully support additional emerging protocols, such as Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), Quad Data Rate (QDR) Infiniband, Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and 16 G Fibre Channel.

The immediate application, however, is high-speed, mixed iSCSI/Fibre Channel environments. The device can simultaneously bridge between 1 GBE, 10 GbE and 8 G Fibre Channel and can also accommodate SAN-over-WAN service using either FCIP or QLogic's own SmartWrite II WAN acceleration technology that provides for cross-fabric connectivity without the expense and complication of merging disparate SANs.

The device is available in a 1 RU form factor and draws only 250 watts when fully configured.
