Oracle Teams with Dell/EMC on Warehousing

Arthur Cole

A quick follow-up to our look at data warehousing last week: It seems that Dell, EMC and Oracle are teaming up to produce a pre-configured warehousing system that is easily deployed and can be scaled and maintained without specialized equipment or knowledge, according to this CNNmoney.com piece.

The pact was formed under Oracle's Optimized Warehouse Initiative designed as an outlet for the Oracle Database. The package consists of Dell PowerEdge servers and EMC CLARiiOn CX3 storage, loaded with either Red Hat or Oracle Enterprise Linux.

The companies are pitching the system as an enterprise-wide data warehousing and business intelligence platform. By using standard x86 hardware designed for high-performance environments, the package should integrate easily with most existing infrastructures, keeping the cost of purchase and installation, not to mention on-going maintenance, low.

The system is available now through Dell sales channels.
