New Flexibility in Industrial Control

Arthur Cole

Central management of remote IT and industrial control devices is becoming easier with a new generation of serial devices that encompass a larger variety of data transfer formats.

One of the latest is ATEN Technology's SN3101 Serial Device Server designed for remote management of everything from servers and routers to PBX systems and power management appliances.

The device supports RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 and Ethernet communications and features a "Real COM Port" virtual port that makes it appear as if remote devices are connected directly to a local PC COM port. The device also supports a range of serial data access operations, including TCP Server and Client, UDP, Modbus, Serial Tunnel and Virtual Modem.

It also contains a Windows utility toolkit capable of auto-discovering networking SN3101s for simplified deployment and proactive monitoring.
