Fujitsu has come out with a new set of SAS and SATA hard disk drives aimed at entry-level to enterprise applications relying on multiple server and storage environments.
The new devices include the MBB2147 and 2973 SAS drives offering up to 147 GB with a rotational speed of 10,000 rpm. Also new are the MBC2073 and 2036, a pair of 2.5-inch drives delivering up to 73 GB at rotational speeds of 15,000 rpm. Topping out the SAS line are the MBA3300, 3247 and 3073 capable of 300GB at 15,000 rpm and outfitted with SAS 3G, U320 and Fibre Channel 4G interfaces.
On the SATA front, the company has introduced the MHW2120BK device that provides 120 GB in a 2.5-inch box. It clocks at 7200 rpm, but includes a number of advances designed to reduce vibration. SATA interfaces are at 3.0 and 1.5 Gbps, with a buffer host transfer rate of up to 300 MBps.
The new drives arrive at a time when other drive manufacturers seem to be struggling. Hitachi, for one, is looking at big-time losses in its HDD business, and is hinting that it could spin the unit off if things don't turn around.
