New Blade from Supermicro

Arthur Cole

Another player has stepped into the blade server arena. Supermicro Computer used CeBit earlier this month to show off the SuperBlade, a 7RU design with 10 two- or four-socket configurations, with each blade delivering up to 64 GB of main memory using a range of Xeon and Opteron devices.

Each blade also has two GE ports, plus InfiniBand connectivity, and two bays for swapping in 2.5-inch SAS or 3.5-inch SATA drives.

Pricing and OS support are still up in the air.
